Family Caregiver Support Program offers information, support, and resources to assist caregivers (spouse, adult child with a disability, other relative, friend or neighbor) with their concerns related to caregiving and helps caregivers find solutions to their caregiving dilemmas. Whether arranging for services, e.g. respite care, transportation, etc., or helping families understand their options for care, the Family Caregiver Support Program gives caregivers access to the information and services that can help them in the often rewarding, sometimes challenging, role of caregiver.

The program offers the following for caregivers:

  • Information about available services
  • Assistance in gaining access to services
  • Individual counseling, support groups and training
  • Respite care to help caregivers take a break from providing care
  • Supplemental services

Being a caregiver can be a thankless and emotionally draining task. Experts believe anywhere between 40% to 70% of unpaid caregivers suffer from some form of clinical depression, and studies have found that caregiver stress puts a serious strain on family caregivers.

One solution to caregiver stress is participating in a caregiver support group. These groups give caregivers a place where they can meet and speak with others in a similar situation. Benefits of a Support Group:

  • Having a space where they can vent and vent and safely voice their frustrations.
  • Feeling less isolated by hearing stories from others in similar situations.
  • Getting advice on caregiving strategies.
  • Learning new coping methods for stress.
  • Relieving stress through the therapeutic power of community.

Meets monthly on the second Monday of the month at 2 pm in the Senior Center.
